Message My wife doesnt drive because she knows she cannot control the car in an emergency situation. She understands the danger of this, and has gone to a driving school, and wants to go to at least one more WITHOUT being mandated to do so.

I watched my dad drive as a teen, and it came naturally to me. No lessons needed. The danger I posed was in my choices to do reckless things while driving as many teens do, not because I didnt possess the needed level of competency. Mandating me to go to a driving school would have been a complete waste of time and money.

Again, like so many things in life today, it all boils down to people employing common (uncommon?) sense in their decisions. If you are at risk of killing yourself and God knows who else if your 200-something HP camry gets a stuck throttle while driving, maybe you should take it upon yourself to do the responsible thing and learn how to handle an automobile from someone or an institution that can teach you. Maybe doing the responsible thing shouldnt be something people smirk at at shrug off, but that they feel a obligation or common courtesy to do.....or suffer the consequences.....if we would quit working so hard to eliminate consequences for irresponsible choices.

Darwin will not be ignored.

"The American people will never knowingly adopt socialism. But, under the name of "liberalism", they will adopt every principle of our socialist program, until one day America will be a socialist nation, without ever knowing how it happened....
I no longer need to run on the Socialist Party ticket because the Democrat Party has now adopted our platform."
--Norman Thomas, 1944 Socialist Party Presidential Candidate

"Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery."
--Winston Churchill
